3 things most people think are normal, but i find to be especially offensive:
* most white condiments. this works out well, considering i'm vegan. but i've always detested sour cream, mayo, cream cheese, cottage cheese, ranch dressing... actually, i hate all salad dressings...
* artificial lighting. hate it. it makes me anxious-- i much prefer natural light. ambient lighting is okay, but i can't handle garish overhead lighting indoors.
* flower arrangements at funerals. the wreath-like ones on tacky wire stands. please everyone-- when i die, spare me such atrocities.
3 things commonly considered to be gross, but that are rather favorable in my opinion:
* big box stores a la home depot, costco, etc. i've always loved them, though for the longest time i could never pinpoint the reason. a colleague of mine wrote his master's thesis on this very topic, arguing that big box stores are one of the few places where we experience the sublime. our sense of self is eroded in the face of such overwhelming displays of consumer goods. it's a truly awe-inspiring experience.
* daytime television. i don't know what else to say... the price is right, the young and the restless, divorce court... i am transfixed.
* overdraft fees. i have found a way to exploit these exorbitant charges so that i may buy things i really can't afford. if i don't have enough money in my checking account to buy the groceries i need AND the fabulous dress i want, i buy one or the other, leaving a small balance behind. then i strategically overdraw my account, factoring the fee into the price of the dress (or the grocery bill, whatever the case may be), and adjust my budget accordingly to address the negative balance with upcoming paychecks. this is how i buy many of my big purchases. it works for me.
the sort of thing i would break the bank for:
vintage biba

and now i tag borrowed, bought, stolen!
